What's more impressive, a 4 TD game or a 4 goal game?: An analysis
Pasta's four goal game today prompted this question on Twitter. I've always liked how TDs scored and ice hockey goals come at similar rates on a per game basis, both for players and teams, and the answer to this wasn't 100% obvious to me, so I thought I'd do an analysis of which is rarer. Per Player or Per Game? To simplify things, I'm only going to look at how often this happens on a per team game played basis and not a per player basis. Although NFL rosters are much larger, it's the six starters at offensive skill positions (including QB) on any given team that have a realistic chance at this. Remarkably, that's the same as the number of "top six forwards" per NHL team. So, while you could debate where exactly to draw the line in each, the number of players is about a wash anyway. I'm also talking specifically about touchdowns scored, not four passing TD games, which aren't nearly as rare as either. NFL Frequency For each league, I'm going to look at the regular season for the five prior years as well as the ongoing one. Since the start of 2014, there have been just six games in which a player scored four touchdowns, from the legendary Jonas Gray game against the Colts to Aaron Jones this year, so it happens about once per season: http://pfref.com/tiny/DGPR0 There are 256 NFL games per season, and there have been 91 so far this year, so it's happened six times in 1371 games / in 2742 team games played, or Once every 457 games. NHL Frequency There have been 21 such games in the NHL since the 2014-15 NHL season, including Pasta's today: http://hkref.com/tiny/OESkC Before the Knights joined the NHL, there were 2460 team games per season. The last two years, Vegas brought that number up to 2542. Finally, there have been 166 so far this season (154 + 6x2 today, including the one that's almost over but not the one that hasn't started yet), which brings us to 12,630 if I haven't fucked up my math. That means a player has scored four goals Once every 601 games. Sorry football fans, while they're both obviously extremely impressive, a four goal game is slightly rarer.
Guide for where to bet on sportssSims and eSports (of actual sports)
In this context, eSports means player-vs-player (as opposed to CPU vs CPU) as part of an eSports league, but I'm only counting those where the video game is that of a real sport, not Rocket League, CS:GO, etc. So far, the only sport that seems to fits that description is soccer, which for the sake of this guide, I am calling "eSoccer." Please help me make this list more complete and tell me what I am missing! Please note that a lot of different sportsbooks are part of the same network (i.e., a different but identical "skin" as other sportsbooks) so if your sportsbook is just like one I've listed here, that's probably why.
GT Bets: New NFL Sim on Mixer rather than Twitch, Liga MX eSoccer
5Dimes: NHL and NBA sims from Fonbet, sometimes NFL sims
Nitrogen: Extensive eSoccer, FIFA Sims, more sims allegedly on the way
Bovada: Up-and-down amount of eSoccer, NFL/NHL sims, NBA sims listed but blank at present
Bookmaker: Extensive eSoccer, NFL/NBA/MLB sims
MyBookie: Possibly shady (alleged to ban users asking for sims to be paused to prove they are live). UFC, NBA, NFL, NCAACB (customized from NBA 2K), WNBA sims, extensive eSoccer
Betonline: NFL Sims, MLB no-video sims (run by Baseball-Reference.com), FIFA/NBA/NHL sims from Fonbet
Carbon Gaming: NFL, NBA, MLB, UFC, FIFA sims
Fonbet (non-US): NHL, NFL, NBA, FIFA, and Tennis sims borrowed by a lot of other books. Wish one of the US-facing ones would use their tennis. Extensive eSoccer.
Wassssssup Reddit. Not gonna lie - I’m feeling pretty good right now. I just had a big win at Bovada casino (not for the first time) and I’ve seen so many of you’s on here bemoaning Bovada, saying it’s not legit, it’s not this, it’s not that, it cheats blah blah blah. I’ve gotta say - I’ve always had an ace time on Bovada. Sure, I’ve won some, lost some but that’s gambling - that’s the way it is, bro! Can’t win it all the time. Anyways I decided now’s the time to write a Bovada review (because I’m sick of the one sided Bovada reviews out there) for y’all because I’ve never seen so many Bovada haters in my life. In the sake of fairness I’ll also touch on a few aspects I don’t like about it too. Interface Real clean. Easy to navigate. Casino Games Spoilt for choice. Whether you wanna get lit playing blackjack, roulette, craps or poker, Bovada’s got a lot of choice. True, there’s not as many blackjack variations as there used to be but there’s still plenty to choose from, including Double Blackjack. Plus, you’ve always got a chance of winning. I turned $25 into $1200 the other week, no fooling. Slots Solid chance of winning on the hundreds of slots available. Maybe it’s just me but they seem to tighten up a bit when you’re using a bonus but again that could be me IsBovadaSafe? Safe as houses. It’s been around since 2011 and uses a secure SSL-encrypted connection to keep your details safe. In all my time I’ve been there I’ve never had a thing to worry about. Bovada Payouts Yeah, the payouts can be a bit slow but so can all gambling sites. Bitcoin is super fast so I recommend you use that but bank transfer takes a few days, maybe even a week IDK I don’t use it anymore. Fees This bit sucks. If you make a deposit using your credit or debit card, you’ll be charged a 5.9% fee. Again, I recommend you use Bitcoin as there are zero fees involved. International currency conversions are a bummer so I’ve heard too. Is Bovada legal in the U.S.? Yeah eSports? You bet, dawg. Bovada got the likes of LoL, StarCraft and Dota 2. OK it’s not the hugest selection of eSports games going but it’s got all the biggest names. Sportsbook? Bovada is actually the biggest US online sportsbook. There’s a huge amount of markets including baseball, NBA, NFL, NHL, tennis, horse riding, soccer etc. Honestly, it’s really cool and there are plenty of in-play options.
Yo guys, I know a lot of you are wondering if BetOnline is a) a legit gambling site and b) is BetOnline safe? Well, I joined a year or so ago and I’ve actually made a decent amount of money out of it (not gonna lie, I haven’t made a great amount but I’m not an all-star gambler, I just do it for the fun). Anyhow, I decided to put together a little BetOnline review for the Reddit community because this place has given me a lot of help over the years with other stuff. So for what it’s worth, here’s my 2 cents regarding BETONLINE: Is BetOnline legit? Yes. It’s been around since 2002. It’s also legal in all U.S. states. Perfectly safe, no need to worry about depositing money with your credit card. As I said, I’ve been using it for over a year and had absolutely no issues Good sportsbook? BetOnline is a very good sportsbook for American sports. Some international sports are offered but the focus is primarily on the likes of NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB. Banking options? Very varied. As well as credit and debit card, you can fund your account with Skrill, Bitcoin and LiteCoin (among others). Strangely, PayPal isn’t an option Also, it’s a bit frustrating that you have to stump up a 6% deposit fee if you use your card. I don’t think any other gambling site charges such a fee! s Free plays? BetOnline occasionally offer free plays to gamblers. I’ve had a couple. They’re ok but a bit of a pain in the ass in the sense that you have to meet wagering requirements before you can even withdraw any winnings. And the rollover rate seems a bit arbitrary Payout process? Slow (but that’s the case with most gambling sites apparently. It takes over a week for the funds to arrive in your bank account but it’s faster if you use an eWallet. Something to think about) Other than that, you’ve just gotta be patient with the payout process. It bothered me at first but I honestly don’t think about it anymore. And to be honest I usually just leave most of winnings in my BetOnline account anyway and use them to fund more gambling Customer service? Slow. Again, you’ll need lots of patience if you’ve got a question BetOnline cheating? Yeah, this is a weird one. There were accusations that BetOnline had done some strange stuff in the past (and I looked into it and things like confiscating winnings is apparently true) … but apparently they’ve also cleaned up their act. And honestly nothing like that has ever happened to me. Conclusion of my BetOnline review I like BetOnline and I do recommend it, but it’s not the number 1 U.S. gambling site IMO. I prefer Bovada but it’s always a good idea to open a few accounts with different sites.

I am in a state where Bovada is illegal. Which website should I use?
After doing much research and asking around, I was all set to open my Bovada account and begin betting online, until I realized that Bovada is illegal in my state. (New Jersey). Can anyone recommend which site I should use? I've heard mixed reviews from Nitrogen and BetOnline, but wouldn't mind trying them out. My most important concern would be safety and no fraud of any kind. I could care less about betting lines and juice, (I mean, I do care of course) as long as I know that my money is safe and that I am not being scammed. Which website should I look into? Thank You!
Said no team would reach 8-0-0, Canadiens happened, will now place $20 bet on someone's parlay.
Hi, I'm Troy McClure, you might remember me from such stupid comments as "nobody will reach 8-0-0". Anyway, it's time to pay up. A couple things first:
I'll give the right of first refusal to the person who snuffed me out, after the Habs' eighth win: JustACanadien. If you aren't interested,I'll just pick someone from this thread.
Also, in the event that the parlay hits, I'd like the option of refusing a "charity" that could leave me on some NSA list. Let's make sure SharksFanAbroad doesn't become SharksFugitiveAbroad.
Finally, since the goal is to pay a charity, feel free to parlay something easy, i.e. FedereDjokovic/Murray to all win their first-round matchups in the upcoming tennis tournament (BNP Paribas Masters). Sure, the multiplier won't be as sexy, but at least there'll be a donation.
Ultimately, though, feel free to parlay whatever you want. Shit, it's your money. A standard 3-event parlay comes out to a little shy of 8:1 odds, which would make for a nice donation and something for /hockey to cheer for. Upcoming NHL schedule: Oct-26 through Oct-29. Coincidentally, exactly 3 games today! Though, feel free to select from KHL/SHL/int'l... Basically, anything that Bovada is down with. Doesn't have to be hockey. I'd put the betting lines here (spread, moneyline, O/U), but Bovada is blocked from work. And that's probably for the best. Finally, if the bettor needs some help on how to select, I - or any other sports better here - can help. So have at it! And please bet responsibly. EDIT: The guy who snuffed me out has opted to forgo his rights; whoever is the highest voted parlay suggestion in the comments will be selected when I get to work tomorrow (in like 12 hours from this edit). I guess, to maintain relevance, bets on today's games (Monday, Oct-26) are off. EDIT 2: beeblez it is! The odds come out to just slightly better than 3.5:1 (3.528:1, to be exact) as these events are arguably safer moneyline bets (they don't give 1:1 odds on a likely outcome; like the Packers vs the Lions, for example, would favor the Packers so betting on them winning would payout less than 1:1, etc.). So we're looking at $20 to win $70.59; which I think is for the best - it's exciting and more likely to make a donation! I'll write a post about it (with a pic of the bet stub) when I get home from work tonight (in like 12 hours). Let's go Canadiens/Stars/Red Wings (did I just say that? I wanna vomit)!
2017 NHL Expansion Draft and Awards show: Nominees list
How to watch the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft & NHL Awards 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT | Wednesday, June 21 T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas American TV: NBCSN | Canadian TV: Sportsnet Live streaming on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app . 2017 NHL Expansion Draft Rules
Vegas will take one player — no more, or no less — from each existing team.
They must select at least 14 forwards, nine defensemen and three goalies.
20 of the 30 players must be under contract in 2017-18.
The cap hit of all players selected in the Expansion Draft must be somewhere between $43.8 million and $73 million.
2017 NHL Awards Finalists
Hart Trophy (league MVP): Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby, Sergei Bobrovsky.
Norris Trophy (best defenseman): Brent Burns, Erik Karlsson, Victor Hedman
Vezina Trophy (best goaltender): Sergei Bobrovsky, Braden Holtby, Carey Price.
I've read a lot of the info on the wiki and in previous posts and I just want to verify that I am correct about something. I follow one NHL team and last year in Vegas I bet on them to win the Stanley Cup. They didn't unfortunately, but it made watching the season much more interesting. I want to do the same thing this year and I'd like to make the bet soon, but I won't be going to Vegas. From what I've gathered, Bovada sucks but it's probably my best option considering:
I am unfamiliar with Bitcoin.
I am just making a single, small, simple bet.
I live in the US (in Texas).
Am I off base here in thinking that Bovada is my best option? I've heard that banks don't want to cash people's Bovada winnings; is that something I should be seriously concerned about? Thanks in advance for any feedback/suggestions.
Bovada put a wager limit on my account. Looking for other sportsbook recommendations
Bovada just sent me an email saying they noticed non-recreational betting limits from my account and limited my wager to $1! I dont understand how anyone can bet with that. I am going to leave Bovada but am looking for another betting site. I mainly bet on player props and games from NHL and NBA. Any recommendations?
I'm trying to find some NHL Fantasy leagues to join I've never done it before. I was wondering if you guys who have done it could post some links where you join at. Yahoo, ESPN, Bovada? I don't know so any help would be cool
Hockey writing and blogging is not just about game play and numbers [OC]
Going over content from the hockey blogosphere daily, I get disappointed with what I cross...or more like what I fail to cross. Certain sites - some on major networks - won't write spit unless it's something to go over thoroughly with numbers. They like to go over direct play. They don't opinionate as-so-much say what the numbers show or what directly happened in a game. By way of it, they're missing out on actually doing what they're supposed to be doing: blogging. Blogging about hockey or any subject for that matter isn't supposed to be about one direct topic all the time. In the instance of sports, it's not supposed to be writing just about game-play. It's not just supposed to be about advanced-stats talk. It's not supposed to be syndicated, follow-network-trend posting that you see WAY too often now on SB Nation linked sites (link-dumps, player grades/reviews postseason, the forthcoming "Top 25 Under 25"). There's stuff to talk about with teams off-ice, there's stuff to look at with the NHL in general. They turn a blind eye or just miss out on that because they're fixated on gameplay only talk? Russian Machine Never Breaks has been fantastic in posting about what's going on with the Capitals post-Championship. That's not just analyzing the game or the players, it's talking about the events going on tied to the franchise and the team. Too many sites get lost at being fans-first and not posting stuff like this (not championship rhetoric but off-ice antics). I realize many markets are weaker and therefore tougher to hear all of the stuff that's going on with players and a franchise, but too often post worthy content is just linked to, ho-hum, without any additional thoughts or reactions. Case in point -- there's been PR emails around abut odds for the 2019 Stanley Cup. This morning Raw Charge on SB Nation decided to share the info with users...on the morning link-dump post. It's a subject that could get more talk, it's a subject that could be opinionated over (expectations for the season should not come by way of gambling odds but game-play -- flesh that out). Link dump posting is phoning-it-in. [As an original blogger, link-dumps used to be bloggers linking to bloggers to highlight writing, not to phone in reports] The point is this -- hockey and sports in general -- is more than gameplay directly. There's history that can be talked about, there's league rhetoric to talk about, there are many aspects for each team to share an opinion on. Just phoning it in with network-trends is just catering to one segment of hockey fans while a greater array of readers will get drawn in by writing something that's more original than player and game-play review.
2015 NHL awards typically have open wagers on Bovada/Bodog for betting, but I'm not seeing them yet this year. It's just a few days away so I'm assuming that means they won't have them since they're not there already?! Anyone know of any sites that will/do have them up?
